overwhelmed by my house

littlecupcake.jpgSo I meant to get a bunch of things done in my house…  but when I think of the multitude of things that need to be done, I sink into couch mode.  I ended up cleaning my kitchen and making cupcakes.  I know my house will be beautiful when it’s completed… but I can’t seem to get myself in gear and do it!  One thing I am excited to do is dig up my yard next month and get some garden beds ready for the Spring.  I can’t wait to have my very own garden full of yummy veggies.  Oh and I can’t wait to see the bulbs I planted last Fall sprout!  I love the Spring.
Here’s a few little drawings I did a little while ago and never got around to posting here.  They’re available in the shop now.

some things I’m grateful for….

Breakfast in front of the computer… new 112.jpg

new 115.jpgThis little Thank you card from one of my collectors (I have a collector! ^o^) sitting among the chaos that is my cutting table.

new 113.jpg A very busy shipping day, and Bunny didn’t chew on any of the boxes!new 114.jpg Yep, it’s a good day.

In the last few days I cleared out my studio and dug through some older paintings, then put some on sale in my shop, found a whole bunch of half finished paintings, and then managed to finish this little girl yesterday.

I think I’m going to take a few days off from painting and clean my desperately neglected house. It’s in a sad state. But right now, I’m off to the post office to send out some goodies and then school to pick up August! Bye!

happy friday!

new 110.jpgToday I’m finally going to get my cupcake fix… and bought myself an inexpensive (but surprizingly good!) red wine.  I find myself drawn to the labels when I buy wine.  It’s called Pillar Box Red, and it tastes yummy with my cupcake.

The above is by my very close friend Portia and she has finally started up her own Etsy shop.  Please check it out at www.portiarenee05.etsy.com.  I’m so excited for her!  She does lovely work and is just the most wonderful person I know.  I only wish she wasn’t on the opposite coast as me.  I miss her dearly.

I’m off to do some little sketches and eat my cupcake.  Happy Friday everyone!

home is here

Yet another heart and tree headed girl.  Today I nursed a cold, drank lots of tea and painted into the night.  If it wasn’t for the cold, I think it would’ve been a nice day.  I also had to stop by the pet store and picked up Bunny some little flower chews…

new 109.jpg Aren’t they cute?   Soon Bunny will chew them into little bits, but they are so adorable now.  So many little dismal things are happening in the mundane life of Ann Whim… but I won’t bore you with them.  I’ll just say: Things usually come in waves don’t they?  And they usually involve lots of money leaving your sad looking wallet.  sigh…..  well, that is life.

snow days are the best days

new 101.jpgnew 102.jpg

Today was so beautiful.  I woke up and looked outside and everything was covered in white powdery snow.  There was no going to work for me today, and no going to school either for August.  I watched the news and watched stranded cars, dented and sad, and traffic moving terribly slowly… August and I were nice and warm and safe here in our house sipping hot chocolate.  I don’t particularly have a death wish, my cars are old and don’t take too well on icy roads, so I’ll call out from work because I don’t feel like risking my life or August’s, or yours.  Then I get another day to draw and paint and drink hot chocolate with my son and make footprints in the snow.  By the looks of the roads outside now, I think tomorrow will be the same.  I love the snow.  YAY!

horsegirl.jpg

I’ve had the idea for a horse girl for awhile.  My mother always immersed me in horses because I was born in the year of the Horse.  I always felt kind of awkward and horsey, so I wanted to draw a little horse girl.  I actually started a horsey painting first, but finished this drawing first.  She’s available in my shop now, and prints will be there soon too!

Happy Snow Day!

weekends make me happy….

…at least in my little shop world.  Not only have I realized that I get the most visiters to my little store on the weekends, today someone told me that they got a warm fuzzy feeling when they were looking through my art.  That made me very happy!

Bunny kept me company for a little while as I painted this shockingly pink tree.  I wanted a more subdued pink, but hot pink it was.  I read a story once about the person who discovered wabi sabi.  I can’t seem to find it now, but it went something like this…  A young student was told to rake the leaves & flowers off the grounds.  After he finished he shook the tree so that some petals would fall scattered at the foot of the tree.  He tought then that he was finished and it was perfect.  He found perfection in imperfection.
Now I don’t really know if this is how it happened.  I can’t even find the story anymore, maybe I even dreamed it up… but it’s a nice story just the same.

snow!

warrior.jpg
Little warrior girl I painted yesterday. How does she fight with all that hair?
I got my wish today! We are having some very strange weather these days and I actually got some snow! I hope it snows more tonight and when I wake up everything will be blanketed in white. I can hope.
I started an etsy site for my mom that you can see at www.mimiandsusan.etsy.com. There isn’t much in there right now, but soon it’ll be filled with purses and bags. My mother and her friend are amazing seamstresses. The only thing is that they don’t know how to work the internet. So I’m going to be managing it for them. But I’ve been too busy these days trying to promote my shop because I’m dangerously low on mulah and I’ve got a mortage to pay! But I’ll have mom’s stuff up hopefully by the end of the week, so go have a looksy this weekend… okay?
I just finished a big mug of hot chocolate and it’s made me sleeeeepy. So I’m going to go lie on the couch and read more Kingston.

white tigers

Oh yes! I have my beloved internet back! I don’t really realize how much I truly rely on this thing until it’s just not there anymore. So for the event I have that tragic ’80’s band Cinderella playing in my head…

Don’t know what you got till it’s gone…..

So Thank you my beloved old friend. Thank you for wiring me to endless information just at the touch of my fingers.

You are truly the lost Atlantis.
Well, forcing myself not to panic about not being able to read my email… I painted incessantly. Bunny has decided that if I’m painting, the best place to be is at my feet so I can trip over her; over and over again. She thinks its funny, I guess.

But then running away with a tube of my paint is one of her favorites too. And see how she just plainly ignores the wooden butterfly puzzle I gave her to chew on? I’ve started bringing her home stripped magazines, like you’d bring a bone home for a dog. She relishes in the taste of fresh new magazines.

Anyway, besides keeping Bunny from whiddling my house down to the bone, I actually finished a couple of paintings.

I was just reading the Woman Warrior again. The “White Tigers” story has always been one of my favorites. I painted my little Warrior girl having a walk with one of the deer. She may look sweet, but looks are deceiving!

I’m really into shades of red these days. Maybe it’s February being around the corner that’s doing it.
Okay, my boy is requesting some chocolate chip cookies… and I really can’t deny him that now can I?

Happy New Year!

perch.jpgtreehead5.jpg

new 091.jpgnest.jpg

Hello all!  I hope you all had a wonderful New Year!  It was a quiet one at home painting and sipping on whiskey.  I came back from the holidays to find my internet on the fritz, so I’ve been coming into my other job sneaking in time on the internet at my lunch and after work.  So I’m sorry if I’m not keeping up with things as well as I normally do!

I’ve painted some new pretties (many bird themed).  Before I left for the holidays a little parakeet escaped from the pet store down the way and flew into the bookstore.  So after chasing it around for awhile, someone finally caught it.  The pet store didn’t want her back so I took her home to add to my zoo.  She’s very cute and chatty.    I named her Posey.

My lunch is over now, so off I go back to shelve some books!
