quiet in the middle

Two pieces done.  The first I finished today and the second finished last week, but I never got around to posting it…

entitled: She’s a Birdhouse

Now I have to get started on a commissioned piece before I even think about working on anything else.  I’ve been putting it off for too long.

Look at what I bought myself!

It’s an amazing specks necklace made by Star Willow Studio . I got compliments on it everywhere I went.  It’s so freakin’ cute!

I just saw *28 weeks later* and it didn’t disappoint me.  Still bloody, gruesome, suspenseful… not as good as the first, but still a good sequel.  I just love horror movies! Of which I also watched *Cigarette Burns* a short John Carpenter horror flick.  Some of the imagery was body cringing, and gave me crazy dreams.  But overall I was a little disappointed.  It could’ve been really good, but it was missing depth and some of the subplots were unnecessary.  It did have Norman Reedus from Boondock Saints, and it was worth watching just for that.  mmm… he’s yummy.

*Extras* the newest book in the Uglies series by Scott Westerfeld is out.  I think I’m going to recommend this series this holiday to all the silly teenage girls who think sci-fi books are so boring.   I’m almost done with *Extras* and I’ve really enjoyed all of them.

Okay, now I’m going to make some peanut curry with tofu.  Yum.

greek mythology

Laid Bare

I’ve always had a thing for girls turning into trees. It reminds me of that story of Apollo and Daphne. It went something like this…

Apollo sees Cupid playing with his bow and arrows. He makes some plagiarizing comment which makes Cupid angry. In return Cupid shoots Apollo with a sharp golden arrow through the heart to make him fall in love. Then he shoots a blunt arrow tipped with lead into Daphne to make her hate the thought of love. Apollo sees Daphne and becomes obsessed with her. Every moment he becomes more and more enamored. As she runs from him, Apollo pursues her like an animal after it’s prey. As he gets closer to her, she panics and begs her father for help, “Help me, Peneus! Open the earth to enclose me, or change my form, which has brought me into this danger!” At these words her body stiffens and her feet become roots. Apollo shocked tries to embrace her branches, kiss the wood that is her body.

*The branches shrank from his lips. “Since you cannot be my wife,”
said he, “you shall assuredly be my tree. I will wear you for my
crown. With you I will decorate my harp and my quiver; and when
the great Roman conquerors lead up the triumphal pomp to the
Capitol, you shall be woven into wreaths for their brows. And,
as eternal youth is mine, you also shall be always green, and
your leaf know no decay.” The nymph, now changed into a laurel
tree, bowed its head in grateful acknowledgment. * quoted from www.online-mythology.com

That cupid is so evil….

This is all I’ve got for you on new work. Sad isn’t it? I’ve got 2 paintings just sitting on my easel being completely neglected…

pics 028.jpg I look at them longingly, but I can’t seem to get to finishing them. Maybe this weekend. Right now I’m searching for something. Inspiration? Emotion? I don’t know. I’ve been going out with people, asking them questions, writing things down in my book; buying music, movies, books… I think I’m trying to get back in touch with the world. Sometimes I get so caught up in my own thoughts, and I forget there are things going on outside of my little world. I did just apply for the November Crafty Wonderland. I’ll know on the 22nd if I get in. It’ll be so nice to do a show!

I have been sick these last couple of weeks. My body is still tired and recovering from it. Of course it didn’t help that I wouldn’t slow down for it. So after a few days of denial, it finally knocked me out and forced me to stay in bed for a couple of days. I hate being sick. It wastes so much time.

Anyway, I’m getting back into the swing of things. Made myself happy by buying a whole bunch of stuff I didn’t need, but had to have…

The movies: Frida, Cry Baby, Naruto. Music: Mazzy Star, Helio Sequence, Tori. Books: I will never forget you, Angry Little Girls (the little angry Asian girl is just like me!), Frida’s Diary. and I still have a million more on my list.

One day I need to win the lottery.
